Can you see amazing things in other people, but get stuck when it comes to recognizing your own rockstar qualities? If your answer is yes, then get your fingers clicking on over to the University of Pennsylvania's Authentic Happiness site. They have a number of surveys you can take, but the VIA Character Strengths is the one I'm referring to. It takes about 10-15 minutes to get through the 240 questions, but it's worth it.
Check out my top character strengths:
I seek out things to be thankful for in life and in others. It honestly gets me through the heaviness that life can bring. Rather than focusing on all the irritations that are nagging at my psyche, I redirect my thoughts to what's going right. This applies to thoughts I have about myself and about others. Try this - it will change your relationships for the better. I guarantee it.
#2 Social Intelligence
I'm aware of the motives and feelings of other people. I have the ability to make you feel at ease even if you are in an awkward, pretzel-type position.
#3 Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence
I notice and appreciate beauty, excellence, and/or skilled performance in all domains of life. Of course I enjoy experiencing beautiful things, but I love the observation of excellence. I truly appreciate gifts that others possess. Innate talents simply are a beautiful thing.
#4 Hope, Optimism, and Future-mindedness
I expect the best in the future, and I work to achieve it. I believe that the future is something I have a say in. Maybe not in every aspect, but I get to choose how I think about it and then take action toward my desires.
In group situations, I encourage members to get things done while making everyone feel included. Providing options while working toward a common goal is key.
Nuff about me. This is about helping you move boldly through life. Once you get your results, take this info as an “aha moment.” Wish that something else would have been in your top five? Take action and build that character muscle within you. This life is yours to create, sculpt, and mold. Take note of where you are and where you want to go. With ownership, anything is possible.
In Gratitude + Optimism, Jody
